This movie is a splendid re-enactment of the 1947 101-days Kon-Tiki raft voyage from Peru to the Polynesian Islands. It is quite faithful to the documentary that was done in 1950 by researcher and captain of raft, Thor Heyerdahl [...] The documentary won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 1952. It is a “man’s movie” though for I think it will appeal more to their adventurous side of a masculine audience because of the subject and all male primary casting but I enjoyed it too. Though it is a movie, it borrows some of the techniques of documentary making, which adds to the reality of the endeavor. It also has a feel of Ang Lee's Life of Pi with its very beautiful shots.
