An exquisitely beautiful film about an Irish girl who leaves Ireland in the 50's to make a better life for herself in Brooklyn. Her home sickness is replaced with love for a local Italian boy, but that love is sorely tested when she is forced to return home after the death of a family member.

The writing is sharp and witty and Saorise Ronan does an incredible job of conveying her emotions with poignant clarity throughout. It is an Irish-Canadian collaboration, but it feels very much in the style of an English movie in which you are constantly aware of the character's emotions and feelings as a result of the combination of excellent acting coupled with expressive dialogue. All the actors do a wonderful job around her. You feel her pain, her amazement and her heartache. When she finds herself in a quagmire of indecision, your heart aches with her, and you struggle to predict the outcome. This has sadness, happiness and humour all wrapped up together in a very tight, efficient package. Don't miss it!
