A gripping, well written story about how the Catholic church deliberately turned a blind eye to abuse and even abetted the perpetrators. This is not a documentary type narrative, nor is it in any way a salacious re-living of the horrors visited upon these kids. It is an exciting newspaper story about a special investigation team for a newspaper setting about trying to solve a puzzle: how to prove that members of the Church at the highest levels not only knew, but turned a blind eye and allowed the abuse to continue. Solving this puzzle meant pushing back against the City of Boston, the Church and everyone that mattered. Solving it meant constant digging, unglamorous work and intuitive clue solving. Too often stories are told in broad brush strokes and you don't get to see the multitude of tiny steps that get you from point A to point B. This story is an extraordinarily well organized masterpiece laying out all those tiny steps in a coherent and exciting fashion. This doesn't delve into the details of abuse, it delves into the dogged investigative research, which in turn indirectly gives the viewer a stark and accurate portrait of the enormity of the abuse that was allowed. It ends with a sobering view of how easily something so very big can be missed until someone somewhere decides to start looking. This is a must see.
