    The Thing

I saw the Carpenter version on TV the night before I went to see this new one. Aside from most of the characters being from Norway, I didn't know it was a prequel until the very end scene with the Dog. I thought Kurt Russell's character in the earlier version had a much more commanding presence, whereas Joel Edgerton's part was minor by comparison. The FX in the 82 movie was every bit as good, considering it was almost 30 years ago. I think they could have amped it up a bit. It just seemed incomplete. A little more imagination and an extra 30 minutes would have done a lot. This movie just rode on the coat tails with a change of actors. Basically, a rerun with a few twists.
