Angelina Jolie is a good actress. However, I agree with one reviewer about the fact that an emotionally culminating scene with the heroine should bring one to tears, not laughter. There was no laughter in our audience, but it was VERY awkward. I also agree with the person who replied to her review."The movie is the story." And as sad as the story is, it's not a sentimentally charged one. This may simply mean that a better director/writer could have saved it and made it more worthy of the big screen. I noticed that Jolie's role didn't have much depth in itself. In one (non-plot-reveling) scene a woman said after the interview with Mariene: You could not tell that her husband was just kidnapped. (It is not to say that she did not care, simply that she dealt with it in her way.) If it's true, however, it's not Jolie's fault. Perhaps that is why some couldn't help but feel emotionally distanced from and un-empathetic to the heroine. Overall, it’s a good movie because of its story and for those who like Angelina Jolie. Worth seeing.
