I realize that this is another sci-fi horror flic which is hardly my favourite genre to say the least, but all the 1's are vitriolic judging of the worst kind, a film that is hardly that bad. Though I don't enjoy the genre, as said, Cronenberg, the younger pulled off a decent directorial debut with a performance from Caleb Landry Jones who is quite extraordinary in the lead role. This idea of biological communion is not so far fetched, let it be KNOWN, as many gay men from the earlier stages of the the aids epidemic and even 30 years down the road 'want' or 'need' to be infected with the virus to have a more complete sharing and bond with the person they love in every way! It certainly seems some of the issues of the film are a bit over the top, but there is a core of truth, as stated, to all this.
I rarely if ever score a sci-fi film above a 3, usually a 1 or 2, but in this case Antiviral by Brandon Cronenberg is getting a healthy 6 from yours truly. I honestly believe all the poor scores prove that persons just don't get what is directly portrayed on film before their very eyes. They're unable to reason out a film to its true potential and worth, in this case the very frightening reality of those living amongst us who have deliberately become infected with a deadly virus. In this viral age, pardon the pun, there is so much information at our fingertips that I simply can't tolerate the stupidity of many many people who are blind to everything! SIX might seem a low score but for this genre of film it is the highest score I've ever given.
