This is not quite the fiasco of the Liz Taylor CLEOPATRA, but neither is it a very brilliant film. The trio of Claudette Colbert, William Warren and Henry Wilcoxon can hardly portray the leads in this early piece 'sandal' epic'. If one were to be totally honest, Claudette is miscast as the fiery Cleopatra. Filming a talkie was difficult enough in 1933 even when filming the usual 20th century drama. Going back to Antiquity just makes it all the more difficult, almost impossible for total realism!
