First of all the title is misleading. Dinner for Schmucks means dinner for Pricks since Schmucks is a derogatory yiddish term for penis, whereas through the movie it was called Dinner for Idiots. The trailer and the publicity leads one to believe it is a great comedy but when I went to see it, with a crowded house at the Beaches cinema, very few of the audience laughed. There certainly were no belly laughs as in the origianl French film. Paul Rudd gave a wooden performance throughout and Steve Carell was relegated to pulling faces. The one who stole the show was David Walliams (ex Little Britain) who can act comedic rings around Carell any day of the week. The female lead, Stephanie Szotak, is a beauty to watch and has a great voice to match. Sadly the highlight of the film was not the script, or the acting, but the great montages using dead mice dressed in human attire. They were fascinating to see. Want a better evening? Rent the origianl version Diner de Cons.
