My wife is a huge fan of Les Miserables so we were off to see it come hell or high water. And see it we did! I have never watched a movie the dialogue to which was almost entirely rendered in song. It took a bit of getting used to. Nonetheless, I found the movie surprisingly potent. Crowe was... enthusiastic in his efforts, but clearly unable to do justice to the songs he had to sing. All of the others, however, did wonderfully (except the inevitably foul Cohen, who, as both actor and human being, I despise) Hathaway and Jackman both delivered performances that blew my doors off! The soul-stirring themes of forgiveness, and grace, and redemption that are at the heart of the story in Les Miserable gain powerful amplification through their expression in music. An entertaining, sobering, and uplifting experience all at once! Check it out!
