Mary, a live-in-nanny and Homer, a clown-magician meet at a 10-year-old's birthday party and both get fired by the end of the day. With nowhere to go, they are forced to house sit for Homer's successful and pompous childhood friend, Adam. This odd couple gets off to a rocky start. They soon realize the gravity of their situation and the necessity of joining forces, making money and pulling themselves out of the emotional hole they have lived in for years. Mary inspires Homer to join Adam's comedy competition to help them escape their impending debt. However, Homer must first overcome his fear of performing and the fact that he has forgotten how to be funny.
