"Lost Horizon" is the story about Shangri-La a mythical lost city deep in the Himalayas. Although this movie was made in 1937 its themes are eternal. When you see "Lost Horizon" movies like the "Indiana Jones" series will pop into your head because of the similarities. A lot of movies that came afterward were heavily influenced by "Lost Horizon" and its classic themes. Directed by the legendary Frank Capra and the story by James Hilton, the author of the book who also wrote the screenplay. The story is about a group of western travellers whose plane crashes in the Himalayas and their arduos journey to the fabled city where they meet their destiny. Although this film is dated and some of the scenes in the restored version are photographs because the film was so badly worn and couldn't be restored," Lost Horizon" is still worth a look if only to see how a great film is made. Of course to a younger inexperienced audience this movie will not appeal to them, but to an older more life experienced audience this film is most definitely worth a look. It's quite difficult to find a copy of this rare gem, but they do exist. It may be available from TCM DVD's if not see it in reruns at TCM from time to time.
