One People

Roy is a young black Surinamese studying in Amsterdam. When he learns that his mother is dying, he borrows money from his Dutch girlfriend to return home. There, he scandalizes everyone when he begins a relationship with Rubia, a Hindu. Will Roy stay with Rubia and remain in his newly independent homeland, or follow his family's wishes and return to Holland? One People is a classic Caribbean film, as well as Suriname's first feature-length drama, recently and lovingly restored.
