At a community radio station, a listener sends a message of encouragement to her husband who is off hunting, pundits offer their views on politics and society on the program Maisonneuve, and late-night callers confide every kind of secret to the host. Ligne ouverte (Open Line) is a respectful overview of people of every age and background who call open line radio shows to express themselves. You won't hear any of the usual sexist, racist or homophobic fare all too common on this kind of programming. The filmmaker simply wanted to illustrate one of the basic principles of a democracy -- the right to speak out. Here, every voice counts, becoming part of the social fabric. For better and for worse.
