This movie may not have been the best I’ve seen... I’ve seen better, but I’ve also seen a lot worse. The plot is of a very familiar one... some teenagers who are naive and dumb enough to dabble in a Ouija board to summon spirits who are way beyond their control. As for the trailer of “Ouija” it was pretty misleading. Before I went to see the film, I’ll admit I was quite looking forward to it, but then after I saw it I was rather disappointed. It wasn't at all what I expected. You are led to believe it’s going to be this great supernatural horror when that isn’t the case at all. Story is indeed a bit on the predictable side. The film starts out very slow in the beginning, until it picks-up near the middle to the end... where at least it gets somewhat interesting. The acting however, is not always the greatest. I’d say it’s a hit and miss for the most part. Lots of cheesy lines used by the young actors. Also, this movie isn’t particularly that scary, much to my disappointment. The scares themselves were typically those corny jump-scares, and although I was startled at times, they didn’t really have an alarming affect on me. Special effects too were not realistic... very unnatural. Another flaw with “Ouija” that was easily recognizable was the random cuts between scenes. I did think the writer and director had all the right tools to work with in making a great horror film, but unfortunately it just wasn’t well-executed. Overall, I would not have been terribly disappointed if I had missed it. Guess sometimes it’s a bit of a gamble when it comes to movies... you take your chances.
