Lakewood, New Jersey; Bangalore, India; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Mirabeau, France; Istanbul, Turkey; Kitcisakik, Quebec. The structures and organizations are different, but in all these places we find similar clusters of people of modest means living in shantytowns. Jean-Nicolas Orhon (Les nuits de la poésie) documents these marginal worlds in meticulous detail, from their various local names to the perseverance shown by residents every day, along with their causes, history, organization and implications. These settlements speak powerfully to the ways our world has evolved, and will keep evolving.
