Despite all the raves from the critics (which led me to see this movie) this one was pretty much a joke. Very shallow character development (for example you got the impression that Crockett knew something that we didn't; and Jim Bowie, unless you knew something of his past, came across as just this guy dying slowly, all the while spitting up blood and challenging authority), very light on history, far too long for its own good, and total US propaganda at the end. Surely, this is one of the US's greatest moments - no problem here - but just the way it was told was almost insulting. For example, Santa Ana's army was defeated in 18 minutes. Fair enough: but he was totally outnumbered by Houston and he decided to save his skin. That's all. Big deal! And Santa Ana's cowardice was repeated later when he more or less coughed up what is now Texas in order to avoid execution. My advice on seeing this movie? Either rent or skip it completely. I got duped on this one!
