MAJOR SPOILER ALERT: The acting is excellent and I was riveted throughout the entire movie except for the end... I thought the plot got derailed. It seemed incongruent for Billy Costigan's character to make such a stupid mistake as meeting face to face with Sullivan, a mistake which proved fatal. He could have blackmailed him into returning his identity by threatening to release the CD, he didn't need a face to face meeting. I also thought the relationship between Sergeant Dignam and Billy Costigan should have been tighter, all through the movie I expected Dignam to pull through for Billy at some point, even posthumously, it didn't seem he killed Sullivan in retribution for Billy, more for his own revenge. Overall, this movie is a must see if only for spectacular ACTING. Scorsese always wants everyone to die, even if it doesn't fit with the plot or even if it's not congruent with the characters... kinda bugs me.
