I was stoked to see The Imitation Game. It received an enormous amount of awards and has been praised by critics and people alike. It also has a very interesting story that I would like to know more about. Well, I'm very happy to say that The Imitation Game is a brilliant film, and is one of the best of 2014.
THE GOOD:
+ The performances are simply incredible. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a career-defining performance as Alan Turing. He again proves that he is one of the best actors working today. Kiera Knightly, though not in the film too much, also gives an amazing performance. The rest of the supporting cast did great jobs as well.
+ The story is so damn interesting! I was constantly interested and thrilled by what was going on on screen. Having not known much about the story going in, I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film.
+ The film is very fast paced after the first act. It made the runtime go by very quickly and I didn't want it to end.
+ The musical score is beautiful and works perfectly.
+ The editing is great, with flashbacks and flash-forewords put in seamlessly and doesn't feel out of place.
+ The directing by Morten Tyldum is nearly flawless. The film is shot beautifully. I want to see more from this director in his future.
+ The characters are very well developed, especially Alan Turning.
THE BAD:
- This wasn't anything major, but the first 15 minutes felt slow and a little bit uninteresting. It picks up after that though.
Overall, The Imitation Game is a near-perfectly executed historical biopic with an amazing true-story, incredible acting and a beautiful musical score. See it ASAP!
RATING: 9.5/10.
