I had to drag not only my girlfriend, but also myself, to see this movie. My best friend, a woman, had read LOTR and told me that the movie was amazing, and very true to the novel. One thing--we NEVER agree on movies. Moreover, neither my girlfriend nor I had read LOTR because we share a healthy dislike of 'fantasy' and 'Dungeons and Dragons'; we were skeptical indeed. In a nutshell, I LOVED this film and cannot wait for the Christmas sequel. Nor can I stop thinking about the jaw-dropping scenery (mostly special effects) , the intense action, and overwhelming sound. I'm still haunted by the crashing horses' hooves and clanging swords of those evil, faceless riders. And what a story of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. Russel Crowe was robbed of Best Actor this year; LOTR, however, was robbed of Best Film. I still won't read the book, and suggest that if you haven't read it either, then see the movie---it stands up by itself, as all great adaptations should.
