The first film captivated me immediately, this one was harder work.
I found the tensions here, more contrived and a bit darker. The lead cast is surely as good as one could hope for.
The local inclusions as able, and of course they are notable pro's at home. Still, while I got why Dev Patel moved the intensity meter up in his role, it was a gear, or two too high.
Richard Gere's inclusion neither here nor there for me, but I think his role was soft in the script. Tamsin Grieg, a fine actor, another ill served by the role.
The script was not in league with the first film, forced, too cute and pedantic a bit here.
Liked it, if more is to come, I'd think about actors not stars in guest roles. Nicholas Lyndhurst, Timothy Hutton, Amanda Burton, Sela Ward etc.
If this film had been the first, I doubt a sequel would've been as viable.
Hoped for an 8, got a 6, this time. They should try again.
