The former principals of Club Clau and director David Smith, a local news photographer for 25 years and Producer Catherine Esterly, a 2000 CCM Electronic Media graduate, decided to put together a documentary in December 2004. The film features never before seen 2001 riot footage and explores how the Club Clau rose up to become named by Conde Nast Traveler one of the top clubs in the world in 2004.

"The Hip and the Hype" is a 58 minute collage of interviews/photos/local press and infamous taped moments from inside the club. The documentary stars hundreds of locals and top-notch celebrities from the world of film, television, music, and sports. The story features Scott Sheridan, Josh Hueser (owner of Bang) and Andrew VanSickle telling the story of the club that never let go. This fast paced documentary features appearances by Justin Timberlake, Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson, Snoop Dogg, Jenna Jameson, Tara Reid, Andy Roddick and many more local media celebrities of the time period. Was it the hip people at this club that created the hype or did the hype make the club hip?
