Don Chelino, a 103 year-old man, plays the indigenous flute, called "pito de Carrizo," the main instrument in the traditional dance, "el tigre y el venado." Chelino teaches a young apprentice how the play in order to keep alive the musical tradition; he also tells him about the 1932 massacre of indigenous people, a dark chapter in El Salvador's history. Through practice, the apprentice learns much more than how to play the flute.
