Real, honest, poignant and engaging at every turn-kudos to a great script, superb perfomances and great directing! Wild reveals a significant "journey" in one woman's life (based on her memoirs) whose life journey is a metaphor alongside her 1000 mile hike of the Pacific Coast. Like all journeys in life; good or bad, we never know what lies ahead and there will be ups and downs as reflected by Cheryl during her hike into the unknowing wild. It becomes a perfect setting for flashbacks of her anger, hurt, fears and reckless behavior that is so entrenched in Cheryl's memory of her troubled life. There are many messages of wisdom best portrayed by the superb Laura Dern (Bobby), Reese's mom. The greatly captured beauty, isolatiion and vastness of the Pacific coast reflects the beauty yet also aloneness that life can bring. It is Bobby who continually conveys to her children the good values of it all, but they have yet to discover and decide their own path as they journeyinto the wild of life. Reese Witherspoon excels in her role; her best film yet and Laura Dern inspires us with every word and the emotional beauty she portrays so well surrounding her life and belief system. This film is so soulful, -without all the Hollywood hype; how refreshing. It reinforces the significance of your own life and how we look at every turn in the pages of our journeys. Love and forgiveness is the key. Like Cheryl's long journey into the Pacific coast, you never know what lies ahead and can "never prepare for what we expect." Only by facing our fears, can we evolve to move forward.
