I just caught the 1939 version of the Wuthering Heights on T. V. It ran about 2 hours, commercial free. This is beyond old; it's vintage. I tend to prefer watching classics over more recent films and this was no exception. Although certain chapters of the novel were missing from the script, I think the film effectively presented the essence and themes of the story in a manner that could be easily followed by audiences both then and now. The lessons of the story were crystal clear, with the language and character interaction beautiful to witness. I felt for the characters and was deeply moved by the story. It was also a delight to see these vintage artists at work as we were effortlessly transported to a world so distant and an epoch so prime.
