10 Cloverfield Lane

It would have been great if it somehow tied with the previous film, and yes there is a monster in this one also. Picture The Thing, District 9 and The Divide with Michael Biehn. It also looks like Z for Zachariah to a certain degree. I'm not sure if someone makes a bunker without hazmat suits. The way I see it just as I thought about the first movie that the big monster was a bio-weapon. Could have been done a little better although the film delivers very well. It kind of reminds me of Super 8 also, but I guess thats JJ Abrams touch to it. I generally dont appreciate out of nowhere film starts, to a point it would have been nice if film started with a major scene to tie it to first movie and then proceeded to build up on that hype, otherwise the hype was built as the movie went along which is great for the thriller but not Sci-fi. That is why I did not give it an 8/10 but 7. To give an example if you remember how Predator and The Thing movies opened with a ship traveling in space and lending on earth, then the movie proceeds with audience guessing how that ties into overall plot and gives extra space for imagination throughout the film, nowadays they don't do it this way any longer and keep audience focus this way makes camera work and events predictable throughout the film. Kind of thought more of JJ Abrams. Peter Jackson would of done better, if you remember how District 9 opened, was a complete surprise and kept audience guessing, this film misses that though. Nevertheless a decet hour and half builds up into a relieving action sequence, so its definitely a solid seven. And finaly JJ did not leave us hanging as in Star Track or Lost film series.
