This is the first time I have entered a rating about a film viewed on DVD rather than in a theatre. The subject matter makes it a worthy exception, as Pete Seeger passed away yesterday. A Folk singer and activist, Seeger was harrassed for what were considered un-American activities and was banned from appearing on TV through most of his 40s and 50's. This film features family members, peers and other notables, and gives us considerable footage of performances. Seeger penned many songs that are still recognizable today. They include 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone, 'Turn, Turn, Turn', 'Guatanamera', 'If I Had a Hammer', 'Kisses Sweeter than Wine' and 'We Shall Overcome'. In conflict with presidents and politicians all his life, he was ultimately a guest at President Obama's inauguration.
