I'll leave sfx out of this because every movie these days has amazing fx. It feels like they're maybe compressing the story a bit. I guess it's for a 'reveal' later, but the first part is intentionally leaving the viewer to wonder what's going on, which is annoying, and they never really reveal what's behind a lot of what they show. It feels like a good idea that was never fleshed out properly, like the studio executives said "We need this out for the holiday season to just start shooting!". If you like action movies you won't go home thinking it was too slow or anything, but you might go home wanting a bit more from the script. The bad guys are absolutely out of the cliche'd stereotype handbook though. Two thumbs sideways.
