    Conan the Barbarian

As a fan of Robert. E. Howard's Conan books; most of which I read in my early teens I find it difficult to even imagine an actor alive who could possibly embody the fierceness of the original character. Mamoa was Okay, just okay. It seems the writers and director couldn't have read the originals and if they did, perhaps they could have made a better effort. Mamoa was just too civilized. No black mane, no fierce eyes that commanded fear and respect from a distance. From Conan the Cimmerian, Conan the Usurper, Conan; Phoenix on the sword, Conan the worrior and many more, I was hoping for much more. From battling the Picts and the powerful evil wizard Thoth Amon, non of these arch enemies of Conan made it to the screen. It has been rumored that Howard commited suicide because he felt he didn't belong in this time and age of "Civilized men". If any of you Conan fans can get your hands on a few of the original stories you will see what I mean. There is no substitute to date.

Okay, sorry about this but I have to correct a few errors here. First off, Robert E. Howard never wrote a "book" in his life. What he wrote were short stories first published in fantasy magazines. The books you list were re-written by other authors, Lin Carter, L. Sprague du Camp, and others based on Howard's original work. Also, in defence of the film which I quite enjoyed, Jason Momoa's Conan has long, dark hair i.e."black mane" and the Picts do make an appearance in the film, an important one at that (see the Cimmerian Warrior trial scene again) Thoth Amon only becomes Conan's enemy after his taking of the Aquilonian throne in the original stories by the way. While the "real" reason he committed suicide will only be ever known to him, it's generally accepted that he killed himself because of the death of his mother.
