    Le Feu follet

A dark film. Malle based this film on a book which was again based on a real individual. His protagonist, played marvellously by Maurice Ronet, had all the visual talents to be extremely successful; attractive to both men and women, well liked, charming and talented. His not so apparent failings were simply self-confidence and time. The positive support he received from others was pushed to the back burner as Malle turned the City of Lights into a cacophony of obtrusive sounds overriding every fine about Paris. A lonely room, women he can't relate to, drinking buddies who have 'grown up', no funds... all the things that can make a loner feel like a loner. For mature adults only.
