This picture from the same team that brought you Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is not as funny and silly as that movie. There is an attempt in Talladega Nights to provide a theme - that of personal redemption - for Ricky, his family and his best friend. It kind of works on some level, but to deliver on these ideas we loose out on many of the zany, hilarious antics you expect in a summer comedy cowritten and starring Will Ferrell. Despite a strong supporting cast, this picture could really have used Anchorman alumni Steve Carell for his comedic relief. The NASCAR action is pretty good with nice direction and steadycam work. Also of some disappointment to me, some of the funniest lines or scenes I saw in sneek previews and TV commercials are not in the final movie cut I saw in the theatre.
