This movie was a definite let down after the desolation of Smaug. In parts one and two there were the goblins, trolls and alot more action with the Orcs. An appearance by Golum would've added something as well. I especially liked the battle on the river, in Desolation; dancing from barrel to barrel, jumping over over hanging trees, great chase scenes and great fight scenes. The five armies were just CGI characters in bulk, wearing armour but not near as much detail. Some parts looked like a B grade wanna be action movie trying to impress while riding on the coat tails of parts 1 & 2. Disappointed in P. J. for allowing the studios to sacrifice previous outstanding quality and cutting corners to substitute wave after wave of the same rows and rows of CGI Orcs to complete what could have been a great trilogy in itself. That being said, the killing of Smaug was the best part of the show. Too bad that was over in the first twenty minutes.
