Well, we might have 3 contenders for a nomination at the Oscars with this movie: Matthew McConaughey for Best actor in a leading role, Jared Leto for Best actor in a supporting role and Jean-Marc Vallée as Best Director since he realized this movie with such a tiny budget but succeeded in creating a good movie. Though the performance of the two actors is excellent, they have more chances at the prized statuette because of their physical transformation. Traditionally at the Oscars, actors who underwent a radical physical change for their role get the statuette namely Nicole Kidman for The Hours, Felicia Hoffman for TransAmerica and Tom Hanks for Philadelphia. Regarding the movie in itself, it is a story worth telling. The weight of pharmaceutical, medical and governmental organizations have over research is often “sclerosing” novative ideas or treatment protocols. Each of these entities wants to protect its turf so much that they forget why they were created in the first place: to heal and protect people. Their professional oaths get crushed under a pile of $$$ while patient die. Sometimes, you get a David who’s going after Goliath and this is what this movie is about.
