Lo and behold, a true blue (Erm, red?) "Deadpool" movie at last! For all those who adore the character. I personally, find his comic incarnation usually insufferable.
But I liked the movie? What? How did that happen? Did Ryan Reynolds' charm rub off on me? (Possible the role of his career) Was it the quippy dialogue? The surprisingly heartfelt romance at the core of the plot? The carnage liberally peppered throughout? I think a combination of all three the likely culprit for this saccharine affection clogging my heart-tubes. Definitely a fun time at the movies. By far the best of the X-Men titles Fox has churned out (Not saying much, right?) I'm sure the execs at Marvel Studios are pulling their hair out right about now, trying to plot ways to send assassins back in time in order to prevent the sale of the X properties to Fox. Too late! They figured out how to print money suckers!
Also of note. Worried parents? Fret not. The movie is totally good-natured, despite the bodily destruction wreaked upon the numerous faceless mercenaries that populate Wade Wilson's milieu. Hell, if anything, twelve year-old boys seem the ideal audience for this flick. So if little Timmy wants to see Deadpool, hell. You'll be his hero for the rest of your life.
Or paying his psychiatry bills. But hell, if this movie's enough to drive your kid bonkers, maybe whatever you've put them through up till now is to blame for their being unable to enjoy cartoonish ultra-violence and hot sex. Shame! SHAME!
