    Farewell My Concubine

Last evening I was part of an audience watching this movie along with many Chinese film dignitaries, including director Kaige Chen. The film is about two boys without family who become opera stars, covers a span of fifty years, and is set against a backdrop of the shifting political and cultural climate in China throughout the mid 20th century. Beautiful in its presentation of the colour of the opera contrasted against ever-present poverty, the film is a fine demonstration of the skills of the entire cast & crew.
