A joy! I first saw this film in B&W on a 19" television screen in the days when everything was in black and white. Bergman's antagonists were a Christian Knight and his squire returning home after the Crusades. The director's personal search for answers about God, Life itself and the Hereafter were often topics in his films and this one is no exception. A beautiful, thought provoking classic film, which proves the theory that film belongs with painting, dancing, theatre, and poetry/prose as a true art.

UPDATE: On May 19th, 2019, some of Bergman's personal possessions were put to auction in Sweden. His chess set from The SEVENTH SEAL sold for one million Swedish kroner ($140,000).
