Watched "Bad Lieutenant" or "Only God Forgives" and thought they could stand to be even nastier movies? WELL, look no further than "Hyena". Gerard Johnson (Brother of the dude from "The The", who also supplied the score) clearly knows his chops behind the camera. Unfortunately when it comes to story-telling he's a tad tedious. The movie seems to have trouble figuring out exactly what part of its protagonist's life it wants to focus on, whether it be the rampant corruption in his department, his battle with a pair of Albanian bro-mobsters (who are truly, TRULY repugnant) or his relationship with his crew. It's also strangely anti-climactic. Johnson makes some decisions with where things go that left me either scratching my head or thinking "Oy! Pretentious!". Still, if you revel in sleaze, this might be for you.
