Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance

Went to see why it got all these Oscars. I guess it's mostly on technical reasons: great acting by Keaton and Norton, excellent sound mixing. I guess Inarritu must have done a good job and there's a good adaption of something - but little that translates in entertainment value, besides acting for acting's sake - in a story that alienates.

The story is about an ex-superhero, now a 'has been' who cannot tweet and doesn't have a Facebook page but wants to be a hero again, and a 'real' actor. Unfortunately, there's nothing uplifting or exciting, the film is static, mostly depressing, there's nothing/nobody to identify with/root for/hate, it's mostly a study in neurosis - but not the kind Jack Nicholson did in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. To put it even more beyond any chance to empathize/relate, the main character is able to depart from reality by telekinesis, flying, seeing visions - making it unfathomable. Some spectators fell asleep.
