Set in 1980 and loosely based on a well-known Brazilian folk song, "Brazilian Western" tells the story of an outlaw named Joao who comes to the city with the hope of starting a new life. He is taken in and offered a job by his cousin, given the condition that Joao sells drugs on the side. When a drug delivery on behalf of his cousin goes wrong, Joao finds himself in trouble with corrupt cops and a crazy drug dealer. While on the run from the police, Joao meets Maria Lucia, the daughter of a senator, with whom he embarks on a passionate love affair.
