Told in three parts, it touches upon such themes as the lack of a unified response to repression, the arbitrary nature of power, and the impact of religious fundamentalism. In La Convocation, a bookstore owner mistakenly receives a police summons intended for his neighbour. During investigation, a young and attractive schoolteacher applies for a passport so she can travel to France for a conference on the treatment of women. Finally, in high school, a fundamentalist teacher's remarks disrupt the life of a pupil whose parents are non-religious. Les Casablancais illustrates how, in the context of Moroccan society, otherwise trivial incidents have profound and lasting repercussions.
