In 2012 North Carolina placed Amendment One on its ballot. The Amendment would forbid any recognition for same sex couples, including civil unions and extending partner benefits. One young lesbian couple living in New York (where Marriage Equality is a fact) felt they needed to go to North Carolina in the months leading to the election to talk to people on both sides of the issue, to see the real faces staring across this cultural divide. What they see and hear may startle you. As they dig deeper into the state, talking to both same-sex couples fighting for equality and religious leaders fighting to protect marriage as it stands, what emerges are not necessarily heroes and villains. This is an issue that has deep passions on both sides, often to the exclusion of the sides being able to talk. With open minds and hearts, these two young ladies do what many have failed to do before them: they get the conversation started!
