Millie Lammoreaux (Shelley Duvall) considers herself irresistible to men, though they have little trouble resisting her, while mysterious teenager Pinky Rose (Sissy Spacek), her fellow physical therapist at a desert spa catering to the elderly, becomes her roommate at a singles-only apartment building. At first worshipful of Millie's self-confidence, the eccentric and withdrawn Pinky soon takes over aspects of her personality and appearance, growing increasingly dependent. This obsessive attachment shatters when Pinky discovers Millie with Edgar, the macho husband of local artist Willie, sparking unexpected confrontations and role reversals among the three women.
