1955 War drama
1h 27min
A wayward teen named Stach lives in squalor on the outskirts of Nazi-occupied Warsaw during the German occupation of Poland in World War II. Guided by an avuncular Communist organizer, the young working-class man (Tadeusz Lomnicki) joins the underground resistance and falls in love with the beautiful Dorota (Urszula Modrzynska) who leads the group. Through dangerous efforts to fight oppression and indignity he matures as he assumes responsibility for others’ lives and comes to adulthood through love and adversity.
