In 1971, a man in a suit proudly raises his thumb to the camera as Quebec's universal and free healthcare system, envied around the world. In 2026 the overwhelmed System collapses live on TikTok and, for the first time, is hospitalized. Wearing a blue gown, he wanders empty hospital corridors and undergoes examinations that expose what has ravaged him for decades: creeping privatization, the power of medical federations, fee-for-service remuneration that fragments care, centralized decisions, and government reforms that ignore the field. He slowly realizes he is no longer the beloved giant he once believed he was. Once our greatest collective pride, he has become a source of disillusionment for many, yet dedicated caregivers still hold the network together, treating patients for free every day. Despite everything, the System remains there for us. Are we ready to be there for him?
