Beyond the Summit

Continually pushing himself to the edge of physical endurance, Mateo (Javier Rey) is relentless in his training, all the swimming, running, biking in service toward a single goal: to climb Annapurna, among the world's highest peaks and long known to the deadliest. Driven by an unnamed need to reach the summit, Mateo's goal is cut short when a snowstorm pushes him into a deep crevasse, crippling him with devastating injuries. Yet when he awakens beside the warm hearth of a small mountainside cabin and in the care of mysterious loner Ione (Patricia López Arnaiz), the mountaineer finds in her care a second chance to reach his goal. Yet as Mateo's recovery continues and he slowly discovers the roots of a wounded Ione's deep need for isolation, his determination to reach the summit flares, sending him back out onto the mountain, still injured and with fewer supplies. With a storm moving in and Mateo facing almost certain death, Ione must move quickly to save the climber, putting herself in harm's way and putting the pair in a harrowing fight for survival in this visually stunning tale of survival and transcendence.
