Georgie (Holly Hunter) is confused about life. She loves her husband so much that she's afraid she's going to lose him, but her constant demands are pushing their relationship to the edge. Where can she turn for help? There are, of course, the women of the house: Georgie's mother Honora (Gena Rowlands), her sister Clare (Frances McDormand) and even grandma on her better days.
But nothing in her topsy-turvy life makes sense until a different kind of man walks into her life. This handsome, sensitive young photographer (Julian Sands) knows what a woman wants...and needs. He devotes his full attention to Georgie and makes her feel everything as if for the first time. The only problem is, now nothing in her crazy life will ever be the same.
