Danzón

Julia (Maria Rojo) is a single mother who works as a telephone operator in Mexico City. While her job is tedious and she lives in a dormitory-like setting with her teenage daughter and co-workers, she is able to break the monotony via her weekly dance sessions with her partner Carmelo (Daniel Rergis), with whom she's won several danzón competitions. It's a routine that she's come to depend on over the past six years, and when Carmelo mysteriously disappears, Julia is surprised by how upset she is at his absence. Determined to find him, she travels to Veracruz, where new friendships (and an unexpected romance) inspire a long-overdue voyage of self-discovery.
