Drifting Clouds

A Helsinki maître d' and her husband, a bus driver, lose their jobs. The film follows the hapless couple as they search for work in a city where the emphasis is on the survival of the fittest. Kaurismäki twists what could be a bleak premise to fit his own philosophy - 'life is short and miserable so let's make the most of it.' What emerges is a soulful treatise about hope and survival.
