At 83, Edie, played by the extraordinary Sheila Hancock (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), is taking some time to reassess her life. After years of living with a cruel and domineering husband and then becoming his caregiver in old age, Edie suddenly finds herself a free woman.
Though somewhat jaded and grumpy, Edie is determined to recapture a little of the magic she had as a young girl. But she is concerned that her daughter has plans to pack her off to a stuffy old-people's home. Remembering a pact she and her now-departed father once made to climb Mount Suilven in Scotland together, Edie hatches a plan.
With new-found purpose and the memory of her father burning in her heart, Edie heads to the Scottish Highlands...
Edie is a beautiful, generous portrait of old-age, adventure and kindness. Set in the stunning, rugged landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, we follow Edie on a spirited journey of self-discovery, whizzing down mountainsides on a bicycle and pushing herself to the limit.
