Fragments of Ice

In 1986, Maria Stoianova's dad got his first camera. Through her movies, she pieces together a life divided into two parts: the tough life back in Ukraine, and the free, thriving capitalist world he explores as a figure skater. In her footage, personal life and politics blend seamlessly. A man dances between two worlds, as his homeland struggles between its past and future, hopes and constraints.
