Full Metal Jacket

A squad of Marine recruits trains rigorously on Parris Island, where the brutal drill sergeant (Lee Ermey) clashes with an oafish misfit sharpshooter (Vincent D'Onofrio) until a devastating confrontation occurs. Private Joker (Matthew Modine), a cynical aspiring photojournalist, observes the dehumanizing effects on the unit before deployment to Hue City for the 1968 Tet Offensive, where the recruits fight for survival amid bloody street battles.
